That Robin Padilla Thing

Robin Padilla's on the news a lot lately because of his romance with Mariel Rodriguez, but I won't go all showbiz on you and talk about that. Something just hit me last night, about Robin Padilla and how he's perhaps the epitome of the unrefined, rugged, yet inexplicably charming Filipino male.

I'm sure girls all know that, the boys know it too and so we see a lot of wannabes - all aiming to capture that delicate balance of winning women's hearts while at the same time gaining the approval of men all over.

Sadly though these boys fall so thunderously short of Robin Padilla's craft that the most they amount to is to be a serial womanizer or to be so completely arrogant, asshole becomes their middle name.

Not to say though that no one succeeds in honing the craft, if I may call it that. There are in fact a few who do, i've met one, and i'm sure you all know someone as well, which brings to mind a journal entry from July 19, 2010 :

Every girl has that one guy who plays the role of Robin Padilla in her life. You know, the guy who is so unbelievably charming he makes you fall every single time. The guy who deep inside you know isn't good for you yet you'll defy sanity just to get to him, only to find out too late that the Robin Padilla of your life will never be just yours.

That's why it's useless to talk about that Robin-Mariel love affair.
