On the Lookout for that Better Half.

Perhaps one of the few things that can rival the experience of romantic love is the sudden dawning of a great idea or better yet seeing the fruition of that idea after months or years of incubation in our minds. Ok, maybe i'm going a bit overboard there, but good ideas do merit something otherwise there wouldn't be such a scramble for it all throughout history. That eureka moment feels awesome, seeing it actually make improvements in the world, I couldn't even comprehend.

So how then does one get hold of this other euphoric experience? From watching this animation of Steven Johnson's, Where Good Ideas Come From, I realized it isn't very far from finding that fabled other half.

Ok, so he didn't exactly talk about love, that was just me and my brain that's hardwired to the world's cheesy core. And from there two striking points I got:

The making of a good idea takes time. A time for the needed incubation and growth and a time for the emergence of a need.  Sometimes even an idea that doesn't seem all too good now given today's conditions, may be the great idea of tomorrow because of different conditions.

The making of a good idea involves the greater scheme of things. We are all bearers of ideas that may seem little or insignificant in themselves, but could nonetheless be the missing piece in a bigger puzzle. And how do we find our spot in the puzzle? By relating to the other pieces, by connecting to other people and realizing that they too are bearers of ideas.

So forget about searching for my other half, which is taking a hell of a long time, i'm now on the lookout for my hunch's better half.
